How to make up Printables

Printables are one of the easiest ways to accessorize your dollhouse.
Here are some tips and hints that I've collected/discovered
since I first started creating and making up printables.

Materials Needed:
Printies that you have saved on your computer
Scissors for cutting paper
Exacto
Ruler
Tacky Glue
Spray Sealer
Optional: Mod podge or other sealer and soft paintbrush

Saving/Resizing Images
Printables are easy to save, simply right-click on the image and save to your specified folder. Resizing an image can be a bit more difficult. There are a number of programs that are useful in resizing images such as Paint Shop Pro, Adobe, Printmaster, etc. However, since they are not used by everyone, I have decided to write up some simple instructions using software that almost everyone has access to - MSWORD and Paint. Just click on the corresponding name for instructions on how to resize in that program. Resizing in MSWORD Resizing in Paint

Types of paper
Different types of printables work better on different kinds of paper.
Use cardstock for food boxes, hatboxes, screens, furniture, wallpaper, shoes, lampshades, pictures/art.
Use plain paper for office supplies, stationary, money, bags.
Use acetate for stained glass.
Use fabric for bedspreads, curtains, blankets, kitchen accessories - such as placemats, potholders, aprons. There are already several tutorials for printing on fabric. Here is of my favorites: Printing on Fabric by Heather Camden

Printing
To save yourself some time and avoidable frustration, always do a "Print Preview" of the item you want to print. Usually I can eyeball it and can tell if the item is pretty much to scale or not. You can then determine if the printable will need to be resized (see above for instructions on resizing). Regardless of what printer you are using, you'll most likely want to print on the highest quality setting in order to get the best results. Once the ink is dry, you'll need to use a spray sealer to preserve the ink. Depending on what item it is, I will also give it a coat or two of Mod Podge to give it a shiny look.
