Japanese Roombox |
|||||||
|
Here is my Japanese Roombox. My DH got me this shadow box at Michael's a while back. The inside is cardboard covered with an off-white flocking. I liked the clean look so I left it. I cut a piece of wood for the flooring. I scored it with an exacto, stained it with a honey-colored stain and emphasized the score lines with a dark brown colored pencil. Then I added a matte sealer - 2 coats.

The right side. I made the kimono and the vase with bamboo. The table is a dollar store find that I sanded and repainted black. I kept it simple - as I really wanted to showcase MA's fabulous mini-minis:) The hat hanging on the wall is actually a Chinese style hat, but I just thought it would look nice so I added it. I wrote the Japanese symbols for joy and friendship on it. I do not know how to write Japanese, but the internet is very useful for looking up symbols so I copied as best I could. Mary Ann made the adorable Geta (shoes) under the table. CHECK OUT MY DIY PROJECTS PAGE AND LEARN HOW TO MAKE A: Kimono Chinese Hat Bamboo |

Mary Ann made the dragon and the amazing Kokeshi doll. I made the bonsai tree, the orchid and the black jar with lid.
| Here is my shoji screen and shoji hanging lamp. I used paper vellum and basswood. This went together very quickly by gluing the wood pieces on to the paper. You can also see the Noren curtain I made from this gorgeous scrap of satin that has a very pretty pastel floral design on it. |

The hanging lamp - I actually installed it upside down - bummer:( I wrote the symbols for cherry blossom and swan on it. I bought an inexpensive battery operated light kit to put in this roombox. It took me a while to figure out how to hide the wires, but I think it turned out ok.
